ORGANISERS of the GOtv CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup have moved Uganda Cranes’ opening match against Rwanda to Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
Reigning champions Cranes begin their GOtv CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup title defence today against regional rivals Rwanda.
In an impromptu decision that the regional body announced on Friday afternoon, the match has been shifted due to the poor state of the pitch following matches there on Thursday.
Uganda was due to take on Rwanda in arguably the match of the day at Jomo Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos straight after the Sudan versus Eritrea game.
“The technical decision was as a result of the bad weather in Machakos that has seen the stadium water logged,” CECAFA media officer Rogers Mulindwa communicated.
Aside from the goalless draw between the two teams in a recent friendly held in Kampala two weeks ago, Rwanda will confront a Cranes team that has become a thorn in the flesh for them in the regional championships since 2003.
