The Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG) says it has begun the refund of electricity tariff increases paid by consumers after it was recently approved by the Public Utilities Regulatory Commission (PURC).
Following the 78.9 percent hikes in the tariff, consumers complained they were being charged more than the approved rates.
Government subsequently absorbed the increment, following threats of strike by organized labour.
However, addressing a news conference today in Accra, officials of the ECG assured consumers they would be refunded monies due them as the company has regulators, who monitor its operations.
