National Basketball League Playoffs
Women
KCCA v Stormers
(KCCA lead series 2-0)
Men
Falcons v Riham Warriors
RIHAM Warriors talisman Henry Malinga believes the champions have not yet played their best basketball against the Falcons in the playoff semi-finals of the National Basketball League.
The Warriors and Falcons are tied 1-1 in the best-of-five series but Malinga, who has averaged a series-best 21 points so far, is not convinced his team have shown their true colours yet.
“We haven’t played Warriors basketball yet,” Malinga said ahead today’s Game 3.
“We haven’t played to the best of our potential and we have to do that in Game 3.”
Malinga rained down a game-high 26 points, including a three-point play with nine seconds to go in regulation time to led the Warriors to a 76-75 victory in Game 1 but was held to 16 points in Game 2, which the Falcons won 80-76.
The Falcons have led for most of the eight quarters of this series and perhaps that is what Malinga was alluding to when he said the Warriors have been second best. And it may not get any easier as the Falcons welcome back Serge Kabangu from a four-game suspension for Game 3.
Kabangu, who was slapped with the ban following an altercation with UCU Canons’ Martin Okwako in Game 1 of their playoff quarterfinals, will strengthen coach Gad Eteu’s rotation and create another threat for the Warriors to worry about.
Meanwhile, defending women’s champions KCCA Leopards should wrap up their playoff semi-finals against the Magic Stormers when the two sides meet in Game 3 today.
KCCA lead the best-of-five affair 2-0.
