The Senior Special Assistant to the Nigerian President on Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), Dr. Precious Gbeneol , has said that over N3 trillion (about US$20bn ) has been spent on the execution of MDGs projects across the country.Gbeneol told visiting officials of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) who called on her on Friday in Abuja that there was a funding gap in the execution of the MDGs projects annually in the country out of the N4 trillion (about US$26bn ) budgeted to the office each year. She urged the IMF delegates to assist the office to achieve the target by 2015. œBased on the 2012 analysis as seen in previous slides, three tiers of government spend more than N3.0 trillion (about 20bn) annually on the MDGs with a funding gap of about N1.0 trillion. We need your assistance to be able to meet the MDGs target by 2015. In his remarks, the Senior Economist in Fiscal Affairs Department at the International Monetary Fund (IMF), Mr. Cheikh Gueye , appreciated the effort of the Nigerian government towards MDGs' attainment in the country, promising to provide assistance to the country to achieve the target goals by 2015.
