KINSHASA, Democratic Republic of Congo -- At least 40 people were killed when multiple gunfights broke out Monday in Kinshasa, Democratic Republic of Congo, government officials said.
Attackers reportedly took hostages at the Congolese national TV, and gunfire was heard at the international airport and a military headquarters in the capital, China's state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
Military forces managed to regain control of the TV station, killing at least 10 attackers and arresting 12 others.
No other details were reported.
One official said there were reports of similar attacks in the eastern mining city of Lubumbashi.
