The Ethiopian Textile Industry Development Institute disclosed that it has been making preparations to supply up to 100,000 trained labor next year to the textile sector. According to Institute Public Relations and Communication Director, Bantihun Gesesse the number of investors embarking on textile is on the increase. The over 130 textile factories that exist today have created over 40,000 jobs, he said. The government has been supporting and encouraging investors in the sector to produce globally competitive products, he noted.
He said that 145 instructors of technical and vocational institutes have received training as trainer-of-trainers and over 1,360 were trained in basic tailoring and other types of training.
Over 103-million USD revenue was obtained from textile and garments in the past eleven months, Bantihun said; the income has shown over 10 percent increase over the same period last Ethiopian fiscal year.
The products were exported to Germany, Turkey, China, Italy, USA and Sudan.
