TUNIS, June 30 (Bernama) -- A Tunisian diplomat and embassy employee kidnapped earlier this year by militias in Libya were freed Sunday, Xinhua news agency reported.
"I want to inform you that several minutes ago a plane left Tripoli with our compatriots who had been held," said Tunisian Prime Minister Mehdi Jomaa at a press conference on Sunday.
"The two have been freed through the efforts of the Tunisian authorities in collaboration with Libya's government," he said.
Tunisian embassy employee Mohamed ben Sheikh was kidnapped by armed men in Libyan capital Tripoli on March 21 and diplomat Al-Aroussi Kontassi on April 17.
Foreign diplomats in Libya are regularly targeted by militias seeking the release of jailed members.
