Angolan mobile operator Unitel has been named by TMT Finance as a possible bidder for Telkom Kenya. Unitel, which currently boasts subsidiaries in fellow Portuguese-speaking countries Cape Verde and Sao Tome & Principe. If the rumour proves to be be true, Unitel is likely to go up against a number of international players for control of the full-service telco. Parties previously linked with Telkom Kenya, which is 70%-owned by France’s Orange Group, include Viettel Group of Vietnam, South Africa’s MTN Group and MegaTech Engineering of Nigeria.
