29/08/2014The nation has paid tribute to 26 soldiers killed on the battle ground in seperate operations to fight insecurity in the sub-region.
25 security forces lost their lives on duty at the military camps of Balgram, Kamouna, Kolofata and Zigague as they stage a relentless offensive to protect camerooonian citizens from the Islamist Sect Boko Haram.
The 26th was killed in the Central African Republic during the peacekeeping operations with African led International Mission for Security in the Central African Republic, MISCA.
During an emotional packed ceremony at the Military Headquarters Brigade in Yaounde, military honours were paid to the 26 soldiers and each was posthumously decorated with the medal of bravery on behalf of the Head of State by the Minister Delegate at the Presidency in charge of Defence, Egard Alain Mebe Ngo’o.
The Defense Minister on the occasion extended the compassion and condolence of the Head of State to the bereaved familiies and the hierarchy of the fallen soldiers.
He indicated that despite the losses recored, the Cameroon defence forces have made significant gains and slammed heavy defeats on Boko Haram noting the terrorist group has been pushed out of Gishaga which was temporally occupied by the group.
