ABii National Savings and Loans Limited is working with its partner banks to roll out a VISA prepaid reloadable card that will enable its customers to load cash in cedis and spend in dollars anywhere in the world.
It will be the first time a non-bank financial service company will be rolling out such a service and underscores the stiff competition that is breeding across the financial services sector.
The company is also working in partnership with the Ghana Interbank Payment and Settlement System (GHIPPS) to roll out E-zwich point-of-sales devices and position ABii as a brand name for E-zwich cards.
The Managing Director of ABii National, Mr Godfred Osei-Boakye, disclosed this at the inauguration of the company within its premises at Avenor, in Accra.
He said the vision of the savings and loans company included partnering with its customers to unlock their financial potential.
Mr Osei-Boakye also pointed out that ABii was one of the few savings and loans companies currently on the GH-Link platform.
“All of our six branches are fitted with state-of-the-art Automated Teller Machines (ATMs) which enables our customers to access banking services across the country,” he said.
The Governor of the Bank of Ghana (BoG), Dr Henry Kofi Wampah, in a speech read on his behalf, commended ABii National for achieving a customer deposit of GH¢17.5 million within a year of operations.
He said the entry of ABii National would increase the existing competition to the benefit of customers.
According to him, the needs and demands of the modern-day customer were totally different from the situation a decade ago and satisfying those sophisticated needs required different approaches without exposing the company to avoidable risks.
“One of the key bedrocks of every innovation and development is competition. It is my hope that ABii National will bring on board innovative products and services to meet the needs of customers”, he stressed.
