A new film in theaters this weekend holds special meaning for some of the “Lost Boys of Sudan” who are living in Chicago.
The Good Lie is about the incredible journey of the Lost Boys.
Kuek Garang was 6 years old when his village was attacked. He was separated from his parents and walked thousands of miles to refugee camps in Ethiopia and Kenya. Years later, he got the opportunity to come to the United States. He was one of about 150 “Lost Boys of Sudan” who found new lives in Chicago.
Garang and Peter Bul talked about their experiences Friday before a screening of the movie at AMC River East Theaters.
Both men are active in the Sudanese Community Association of Illinois. They hope the film will raise awareness about what they went through in the past and the present situation on the ground in South Sudan.
