Currently the real estate is big business in Ghana, becoming one of the few sectors in the country to defy economic challenges to register double digit growth rates on annual basis. It is upon this basis that the Executive Director of Property Express, Robert Wegbe has called on industry players in the real estate sector in Ghana to do more in the provision of affordable houses for Ghanaians.
He spoke exclusively to Modernghana.com after a press interaction in Accra during the first product presentation preceding this year’s Ghana Property Awards slated for the 1st November 2014 at the Banquet Hall State House. The awards are meant to appreciate and boost efforts of qualified real estate developers, input suppliers, mortgage firms and related service providers in Ghana.
Mr. Wegbe in his submission identified the need for more Ghanaians to increasingly stand the chance of either renting or buying houses to secure good accommodation in their choice of location. Speaking on the back drop of governments intention to progressively eradicate slums in the capital and for that matter the country through the affordable housing project. He stressed it was important private developers shared in the cause to provide healthy and comfortable environment for all Ghanaians.
As potential award winners, all nominees who presented proof to be the best in their respective categories were subjected to scrutiny through the vote of journalist and other members of the property industry. The exercise according to Mr. Wegbe was to access and make decision on behalf of the public about each product presented by companies which were vying for awards.
It was done through an open set of questionnaires indicating how high or low one thought of the product, bearing in mind their usefulness and profits to the citizenry and the country as a whole. He adds that the process was to exhibit the transparent nature of this year’s awards ceremony and to correct previous impressions and future doubts in the minds of nominees.
He revealed however that Property Express shall also replicate similar standard of this award ceremony, the African Property Awards in the United Kingdom at London Hilton 22 Parklane – W1K 1BE, on the 7th December 2014 where several players in the property industry around Africa shall converge to be crowned champions in Africa.
