Last year DP committed to support the national dialogue with other democracy seeking groups hoping to agree on the agenda and come up with a roadmap that will give people hope that change is possible
The Democratic Party (DP) President Mr Nobert Mao has said that next Inter –Party Organisation dialogue should be at presidential level if they want to have change.
Addressing journalists at their weekly press conference in Kampala Mr Mao said they have been holding talks with the secretaries general of the different parties instead of the party leaders who are the last decision makers.
“We need a president’s summit as party leaders and we are not afraid to engage NRM in the dialogue if they are ready,” Mr Mao said.
He added that it’s now four years since they demanded for the president’s summit but all seems to be in vain.
“It is in the president’s summit where we can make decisions for the good of our country and to put free and fair elections on board,” Mr Mao added.
He said that in the IPOD meeting held in Zanzibar last week, some of the resolutions made, were having dialogue at presidential level because without talks, the only options left would be destructive methods like fighting.
Mr Joseph Bossa the Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) Vice president said they have been hosting secretary general’s dialogues but this time, they want meaningful presidential summit.
“We must have one with the agenda, instead of going to the state house to have tea and pose for photos without having good plans for the country,” Mr Bossa said.
In 2012, UPC asked for a national dialogue, but their request fell on rocky grounds after other parties gave a cold shoulder.
