Travelers to Zanzibar need not go without some pampering. Before arriving in Zanzibar we had undoubtedly heard of the spice islands in Zanzibar's Archipelago. Once the spice capital of the world, it is not surprising then to hear that spice production is still one of the main industries, along with tourism of course. During a recent visit to Tanzania we spent three days in Zanzibar. Yes, we took a mini vacation from our overland vacation. When you travel overland in Africa there are some very long days on the road. Fortunately, after about a week into our 45-day overland trip from Nairobi, Kenya to Cape Town, South Africa we enjoyed a three-day stopover in Zanzibar. Needing some R & R we took advantage of the opportunity for some spa time.
Beachside spas on the North Coast of Zanzibar
Most visitors to Zanzibar head for the north end of Zanzibar. North Coast of Zanzibar is where you will find beachfront hotels that offer spa services. At a cost of 20-30 US dollars for an hour message most visitors will not be able to resist having a beachside spa treatment. While these beachside spas are not full service spas the services they provide are great value for the money. Whether you combine a spa treatment with a day snorkeling, diving or just relaxing at the beach you cannot go wrong.
Our group of weary travelers certainly took advantage of the opportunity to check out some of the beachside spa services. One of the places that we tried was Sunset Beach, where we stayed during our North Coast, Zanzibar visit. For travelers reviews of this resort see Tripadvisor. The cost of a 60-minute message at the Sunset Beach Resort was 20 US dollars.
Another spa service that we checked out was the spa at the Essence Hotel. The cost at the more upscale Essence Hotel spa was 30 US dollars. These beach side spas are also the perfect place get your hair braided or have a henna tattoo. Again our group took advantage of these services. The spice island Zanzibar is the perfect stop for weary travelers.
Our restful stopover in Zanzibar was over, all too soon. We returned to Stone Town where we took the ferry back to Dar Es Salaam. After a night’s rest at Kipepeo Beach Village, on the South Coast of Dar Es Salaam we would rise early next morning. Yes, we were back on the road for a 12-hour drive southwards towards Iringa, our next stop. Our spa time in Zanzibar was indeed a refreshing stopover during our overland travels through Tanzania.
