TRIPOLI, Oct 2 (Bernama) -- Fighting between local tribes near Libya's southern city of Sebha left 15 people dead and another 55 injured, Xinhua news agency reported.
Security officials said the clashes took place between members of the Awlad Suleiman and Qaddadfa tribes.
Local residents said many houses were destroyed and continuous bombing was heard over the last two weeks.
The tribes had earlier reached a number of truce deals following mediation by local elders and tribal leaders, but officials said the warring parties failed to take the agreements seriously.
Sebha, a city located near an oasis in southwestern Libya, is crucial for security along the country's southern border with Niger, Chad and Sudan.
Earlier reports said extremists and militants could easily sneak into Libya due to poor border control.
