Algiers — Algeria hails the "wise and brave" decision of the Kingdom of Sweden which officially recognized Thursday the Palestinian state, spokesman of the Minister of Foreign Affairs said in a statement to APS.
"This decision, laudable in many respects, reflects a growing will of the international community to fulfil its commitments towards the Palestinian people and to comply with he provisions of the relevant resolution of the Security Council and the General Assembly of the United Nations," Abdelaziz Benali Cherif stressed.
"Besides, this decision is likely to contribute to the efforts meant to bring the Israeli occupant face to face with its responsibilities and lead it to comply with international law, remove the obstacles and stop procrastination that only jeopardize the peace process."
"Algeria, which offers congratulations to the brotherly Palestinian people on this new asset, reiterates its unflinching support in their struggle for their inalienable right to a reliable and independent State with El Quds as capital-city," the same source stressed.
Swedish FM, Margot Wallstrom, said that her government took Thursday the decision to recognize the state of Palestine, dubbing this decision "a major step that confirms the right of Palestinians to self-determination."
