Zimbabwe's vice president linked to plot

JOHANNESBURG (AP) -- The knives are out for Zimbabwe's vice president, once seen as a possible successor to President Robert Mugabe and now the target of increasingly harsh allegations.
In the latest blow to Vice President Joice Mujuru, a state-run newspaper reported Sunday that she is linked to an alleged plot to assassinate 90-year-old Mugabe, who has been in power since independence in 1980.
The Sunday Mail says two allies of Mujuru were involved in the alleged conspiracy. It cites a voice recording and reported comments as evidence, but does not attribute the information to security officials or other sources.
Political factions are maneuvering for influence ahead of the ruling party congress next month. Mujuru, a longtime associate of Mugabe, has come under repeated verbal attacks from the president's wife, Grace.
