The maiden show of the most publicized entertainment awards show, The GN Bank People’s Choice Awards billed for the 21st March 2015 at the Accra Conference Center remains as scheduled.
Spyderlee Entertainment, organizers of the show disclosed this in a press statement issued on Friday, 27th February 2015 to debunk claims that the program had been cancelled due to a court injunction slapped on it.
The statement expressed grave concerns over the false publications targeted at undermining the painstaking efforts of the company and the awards board to unveil the prestigious honors event in the country. Setting the records straight over the legal controversy revolving round the name of the program, the statement explained that “Spyder Lee Entertainment had successfully and legally registered People’s Choice Awards as a business at the Registrar General’s Department and subsequently registered GN Bank People’s Choice Awards as a trademark yet had been embroiled in a legal tussle with Evolution International over the ownership of the name People’s Choice Awards”.
The statement further added that,“In April 2014, Spyder Lee Entertainment in a two week media campaign massively publicized the introduction of the awards and went on to launch the awards in November 2014. Surprisingly, weeks after the launch event, Spyder Lee Entertainment was notified of the registration of People’s Choice Awards by Evolution International and a request to desist from the use of the name People’s Choice Awards which resulted in a law suit.”
At the hearing at the Fast Track High Court on Thursday 26th February 2015, the presiding judge, Justice Anthony Yeboah, placed an injunction restraining both parties from using the name ‘People’s Choice Awards’ until the case is settled between both parties but this does not in any way affect the event.
The organizers assured all nominees, industry players and the public to disregard the rumors and gear up for what promises to be a huge and eventful ceremony par excellence and international standard “we assure all nominees and the general public of our commitment to work within the framework of the laws governing the Republic of Ghana to ensure that the awards night comes off as planned amidst all the pomp and pageantry as expected”.
The statement also disclosed the massive public response to the nominee campaigns so far and the swelling expectations of industry watchers of the upcoming GN PCA AWARDS along “the massive celebrities’ endorsements of the event”.
Journalists seeking further clarification are being urged by the press release to contact Spyderlee Entertainment offices especially “when in doubt before going ahead to make such publications in the spirit of professional journalistic practice”.
