The Conference objective is to create greater awareness of the potential of light-based technologies in solving many of the challenges facing the continent in the field of education, energy, communications, agriculture and health as well as promoting interaction and dialogue among academics, industries and professionals in using optics and photonics concepts in tapping developmental strategies for communities with the view to enabling policy makers appreciate the relevance for the support for science for economic advancement. It would further attract young minds and innovators to come out with new ideas and inventions in the application of light-based technologies for the benefit of the Continent.
The Conference envisages bringing together Ministers of Education, Science, Technology, Innovation and Research of Member States of Africa; Representatives of Regional bodies - AU, ECOWAS, SADC, etc.; Representatives of UNESCO and other relevant UN Agencies; Academies of Arts and Sciences in Africa; Physical Societies across the continents; Key Industry players in Optics and Photonics (International and Local); Universities and other Academic Institutions and Centres; Students’ Physical Societies at the Tertiary level; Students at the Junior and Senior High School level and Relevant Non-Governmental Organizations (Local and International).
