Philips Lighting West Africa, Ghana, has launched an Electrician Loyalty Scheme at the National Theatre in Accra.
The scheme is intended to empower and reward electricians across the country for their patronage of Philips’s products.
The event was attended by over 200 electricians working in different sectors of the economy. Other key stakeholders included the Energy Commission (EC), Ghana Institution of Engineering and Technology (GhIET), and Accra Technical Training Centre (ATTC).
The programme was officially launched by the General Manager of Philips Lighting West Africa’s, Mr Felix Darko.
He used the occasion to acknowledge the important roles electricians played in every sphere of our lives, including homes, offices, business and government institutions, noting that they usually recommended and ensured that good and quality products were used for providing power to installations.
Mr Darko stated that Philips, as a company, had maintained leadership role in the lighting industry, delivering quality lighting products to its customers for the past 100 years.
He emphasised that innovation was key to the company, the reason it had enhanced its current offerings from compact fluorescent lamps (CFLs) to Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), which give better illumination, are more energy-efficient and have a longer lifespan.
Mr Darko said the loyalty scheme would focus on training and development, product understanding and application, knowledge support to enable electricians to successfully pass their Ghana Energy Commission Certification Examination, as well as rewards for making purchases for Philips Lighting products.
Mr Benjy Ofori, the Business Development Manager of Philips Solar West Africa, said the participating electricians would be automatically enrolled in the pilot project to be rolled out in other markets in West Africa soon.
He reiterated some of the benefits of the scheme for the electricians, which included free lamps, bulbs, training and development, working kits and factory visits.
A Representative of the Energy Commission, Mr Solomon Sarpong, said it was important for all electricians to complete their certification examination before the end of June, 2015.
Mr Sarpong commended Philips for their initiative.
