Morocco has announced the recalling of its ambassador to Abuja over Nigeria's claims its president had spoken with Morocco's king.
Morocco's ministry of foreign affairs said Tuesday that there was never a telephone conversation between his majesty King Mohammed VI and Nigeria's President Goodluck Jonathan. The ministry said the request for a call was declined because it did not want to be part of "internal electioneering" as Nigeria comes closer to elections.
Morocco called the claims "unethical" and "contrary to the spirit of responsibility that must prevail in relations between state."
A Nigerian political party on Thursday asked Jonathan's administration to explain the cause of the diplomatic row.
