KAMPALA. Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under their umbrella body of National Union of Disabled Persons of Uganda (NUDIPU), have demanded more inclusion in World Bank sponsored development projects in the country.
Speaking at a consultative workshop to update members on revision of the World Bank policies, the NUDIPU Executive Director, Mr Edson Ngirabakunzi, said: “There is need for PWDs to easily access information, services, employment opportunities and representation on World Bank sponsored projects in line with its safeguards.
He added: “If there is going to be social assessment, PWDs indicators should also be included in the plan.”
Mr Ngirabakunzi said understanding how development and disability interact is a process which will require all PWDs to come together as a group, network and engage the World Bank country office in Uganda.
Currently, the World Bank is in consultation with various parties to see how best it can improve its environmental and social polices (safeguards).
