Amuru. Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) on Tuesday arrested one of their own accused of shooting dead a bar maid in Bibia Parish, Atiak Sub-county in Amuru District, last Sunday.
Faidah Shida was allegedly shot twice in the chest by a soldier at the 29th Battalion at Bibia army detachment after developing a misunderstanding over Shs1,000.
The soldier is reported to have gone into hiding after the shooting but on Tuesday evening, area residents sighted him and reported him to the UPDF.
Capt Caesar Otim Olweny, the 4th Division army spokesperson, on Wednesday confirmed that the soldier was arrested and is in custody at the 4th Division army headquarters in Gulu Town.
“At the time of the arrest, he was looking for some money to travel to Busia District where his relatives live,” said Capt Olweny.
“The suspect’s file is already before the special investigations branch of the UPDF after which he will be arraigned before the court martial to face charges of murder,” he added.
The 4th Division army spokesman added that another officer will face trial after his gun was reportedly used in the killing.
