Five teams stand a chance to plunge deep into the relegation pool but Police Morogoro and Tanzania Prisons are the hardest hit of the possible chop.
Bottom-placed Tanzania Prisons from Southern Highland’s city of Mbeya have 22 points in 23 appearances, just one below relegation haunted partners Police Morogoro. The cops were playing their 23rd game against visiting Coastal Union at the Jamhuri Stadium yesterday.
However, the relegation wave could still spread to other three teams of Ndanda, JKT Ruvu and Coastal Union as the difference in points between the teams is barely two.
Two teams would board the relegation-bound flight at the end of the season next month and the permutations leading to the fate is highly complex. A slight change in performance between the teams would make a huge change in the standings table.
Only two or three matches are left to wind up the season’s fixture and the bad luck could strike to any of the above mentioned teams.
Coaches of the teams spend sleepless nights and ay for victory in their subsequent matches to win premiership survival.
Four other teams from the first division league have already won promotion into the top flight league for the next season that is expected to kick off later in August.
The teams are Majimaji, African Sports, Mwadui and Toto Africa of Songea, Tanga, Shinyanga and Mwanza, respectively. The next season would accommodate 16 teams as the number of teams would be increased from the current fleet of 14 teams.
