THE Minister for Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mr Bernard Membe, has urged the local business community to make use of the rising business and investment opportunities in the Comoros brought about by reinforced bilateral relations.
Mr Membe aired the remarks on Thursday at the 2015 Tanzania- Comoros Trade Summit that was organised by the two countries, as well as the private sector in the capital Moroni.
"Tanzanians are very respected and valued here from our contribution in 2008 of liberating the Island of Anjouan from Colonel Bacar.
Now the Union of the Comoros government is strengthened and our bilateral relations are solidifying. They have opened their doors to us first and I suggest we make the most of this opportunity," he said.
In addition to that, the Minister congratulated the two missions in their efforts of organising the summit, saying that such initiatives helped bond the two countries together more.
"President Jakaya Kikwete toured here in 2014 and promised to improve our relations as well as urged closer business relations between our two countries.
Allow me to congratulate Ambassador Kilumanga and Ambassador Fakih for working with the private sector and doing this very timely," he said.
The Comoro President, Mr Ikililou Dhoinine, said that he and his government are very grateful to Tanzania for all that it has done to the island and its people and that he will make sure that cooperation is strengthened and diversified.
After the official opening of the summit, the business community from both countries mixed and later divided into smaller groups, where they raised a number of challenges that they face.
The summit aims at bringing out better ways of enabling the business community to grow.
While in Moroni, Mr Membe had the opportunity of visiting a number of beaches which are big tourism attractions and was accompanied by his host, Dr Alanrif Said Hussane, the Minister for Foreign Affairs.
