Kumasi-based Sikka FM donates to Asante Kotoko and King Faisal
Sikka FM, a Kumasi-based radio station have made cash donations to Asante Kotoko and King Faisal to help mitigate their financial woes.
The donations follow media reports of the dire financial status of the two Ghanaian Premier League clubs based in Kumasi.
Kotoko, the reigning league champions are in arrears of player salaries for about three months while their cross-town neighbours – Faisal – have an over six-month salary arrears owed players to clear.
This chilling revelation paints the true picture of the sorry financial state of most Premier League clubs in Ghana while payment of sponsorship monies from Glo remain a mystery.
Faisal for instance are in dire need of cash injection in order to honour their weekend Premier League match away to Hearts of Oak.
It is on this basis that Sikka FM proceeded to make the donation of GHS 1000 (about $500) each to help shore up the finances of the ailing Kumasi clubs.
“We made these donations as part of our social corporate responsibilities,” General Manager of Sikka FM Sometymer Otuo Acheampong said.
“These clubs are based in Kumasi and as a Kumasi radio station we felt the responsibility to also contribute the little we can to help these clubs who have thrilled the fans with their football over the years.”
