Johannesburg - More Sector Education and Training Authority (Seta) offices are being planned for rural Further Education Training (FET) colleges, Higher Education Minister Blade Nzimande said on Tuesday.

These included rural municipalities such as Chris Hani, OR Tambo, Mvezo, Mhlontlo, Lusikisiki in the former Transkei; and Impendle, Sisonke and Umkhanyakude in KwaZulu-Natal.

Speaking at a Seta forum in Rosebank, Johannesburg, Nzimande said he expected that all 50 FET colleges would have Seta offices by the end of March, despite financial and infrastructure challenges.

“Setas need to work hard to overcome the challenges they face if South Africans are to fully reap the fruits of freedom,” he said.

Thirty of these offices had already been set up.

FET graduate placements, internships and learnerships would remain among Seta's priorities in the coming months, Nzimande said.
