WASHINGTON (AP) — Sources revealed to the Associated Press late Friday night that the Libyan government has released four U.S. military personnel who had been detained there.
The U.S. State Department had earlier said the personnel were being detained by the Libyan government, but did not say for what reason.
A State Department spokesperson said Friday night that the United States was communicating with Libyan officials to ensure the Americans' release. Sources later told the AP that the detainees were released.
The U.S Embassy in Tripoli includes a security detail. The embassy's personnel are restricted in their movements in Libya.
