The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge will attend the European premiere of the highly anticipated film Mandela: Long Walk To Freedom.
William and Kate will join the film's stars, including British actors Idris Elba and Naomie Harris, at the red carpet event at the Odeon cinema in London's Leicester Square tonight.
The film depicts the life of Nelson Mandela, played by Elba, from childhood through to his inauguration as the first democratically-elected president of South Africa.
The Royal Film Performance is held annually and is the principal fund-raising event for the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund (CTBF), the trade charity for the UK film and television industries.
The fund provides care and financial support to industry employees and their families who suffer from hardship due to bereavement, illness, redundancy or other misfortunes.
CTBF president Barry Jenkins said the fund was thrilled to be able to host the royal premiere of the joint South African-British production.
" We are most grateful to the Royal Family for their continued support since the very first Royal Film Performance event back in 1946," he said.
"The funds raised from this event make a huge difference to the lives of industry colleagues and their families in times of great need."
The event is sold out.
The film will be released in cinemas across the UK and Ireland on January 3.
