A pair of globally minded movie events — thought-provoking and free to attend — come to the Milwaukee area next week.
■Five documentaries exploring the human condition from a global perspective are showing Wednesday as part of the United Nations Association Traveling Film Festival, stopping at Carroll University's Shattuck Music Center, 218 N. East Ave., Waukesha. The films start at 4 p.m., with "Soldiers of Conscience," followed by: "Faces," 5:35 p.m.; "The Education of Shelby Knox," 7:10 p.m.; "American Outrage," 8:35 p.m.; and "Happy," 9:40 p.m.

■A film series marking the 20th anniversary of the Rwanda genocide of 1994 is planned for Wednesday through next Friday at Marquette University.
"Rwanda 1994-2014: The Search for Justice and Reconciliation" starts with a screening at 7 p.m. Wednesday in Raynor Memorial Library Beaumier Suites B&C of "Rwanda. Through Us, Humanity," on survivors of the genocide and their world 10 years after the madness. Director Marie-France Collard will be on hand for a post-screening Q&A.
Collard also will take part in Q&A sessions after showings of "Bruxelles-Kigali," at 7 p.m. Thursday, also in the Raynor Memorial Library, 1355 W. Wisconsin Ave.; and a preview of "Komora: To Heal," 5 p.m. Friday, in Straz Hall Room 105, 606 N. 13th St. Also taking part will be humanitarian activist Martine Beckers and, at the Friday event, genocide survivor and "Komora" co-director Emmanuel Habimana.
