BRASHER FALLS — The academic leaders for the class of 2014 at St. Lawrence Central School are Jenna Kesner, valedictorian, and Shane Fuentes, salutatorian.
Miss Kesner, daughter of John and Elaine Kesner, Brasher Falls, has participated in National Honor Society, Spanish Club and the Horizons Program at Clarkson University, Potsdam. She was captain of the varsity soccer and basketball teams and received several awards, including the Section X academic award and Section X sportsmanship award.
Miss Kesner volunteers through her church, including children’s church, youth group and vacation Bible school. In the summer of 2012, she participated in a mission trip to Gulu, Uganda.
Miss Kesner will pursue a degree in science and/or the medical field through SUNY Potsdam.
Mr. Fuentes, son of Abel and Nereida Fuentes, Brasher Falls, is president of National Honor Society and a member of the Whiz Quiz team and Spanish Club. He is a member of the varsity basketball team and was named to the Academic All-Northern team four times.
He volunteers through several programs, including Project Plush, Brasher Falls youth sports and Special Olympics.
Mr. Fuentes received several awards from St. Lawrence University, Canton, Nazareth College, Rochester, and Canisius College, Buffalo. He received the 2014 Augsbury/North Country Scholarship and will major in pre-medicine.
