JINJA - Defending champion Willy Kitata will be missing this year’s Eskom Golf open that is going to take place from July 10-12 at Jinja Golf club .
The 25-year old who dominated the local golfing scene last season, will be heading for a one-month European Tour on July 10 where he will be traveling to take part in various tours .
‘’I was given an invitation to take part in Poland, Germany, Switzerland and Sweden Tours thanks to last year’s sponsorship package I endured after winning the Eskom open. I thank the company so much because without them I would not have concentrated on being so consistent on Ugandan soil . I will miss taking part in this year’s event but I had to consider the European invitation," he said .
"I therefore wish to here the best player take this year’s Eskom title and benefit from it like I did.’’
Kitata’s absence leaves room for top players like Jinja dual of Ronald ‘King ‘ Bukenya and Ismael Mahmood against Lawrence Muhenda, Adolf Muhumuza [2011 champion], Peter Sendawula, Abbey Bagalana, Happy Robert, Phillip Kasozi and others for the title.
The professional Golfers and Gross players will tee off on July 10 and 11 while the rest of the subsidiary players will tee off on July 12 all at Jinja Club. Over sh100m has been injected in this year’s competition.
