Local Swimmers take to the pool in preparation for an international event. They will be battling for honours in the Independence Gala this weekend at the Kampala International School of Uganda in Bukoto.

Top international schools and local clubs will be eying this year’s Independence swimming gala slated for October 4–5 at the Kampala International School of Uganda, KISU, in Bukoto.
The Uganda Swimming Federation president Donald Rukare has confirmed that between 300-400 swimmers from 20 clubs will be vying to win the overall crown in various age categories at the prestigious event.
A new timing system set by FINA in 2010 will be introduced for the first time in the country to have a more accurate data base confirmed Rukare.
The federation will also host Rico Powers, an International swimming coach from FINA, who will conduct a two day coaching clinic on October 5-6 courtesy of FINA.
Entries for the event closed on September 30.
The British School, Gayaza, Homesdallen, ISU, KISU, Makerere University, Ndejje University, Sir Apollo Kagwa schools and St. Lawrence Schools are some of the schools that have confirmed participation.
National swimmers that include Tendo Mukalazi, Rebecca and Jethro Ssengozi and Kirabo Namutebi will also take part.
Only two swimmers are allowed per event.
