TUNIS, Tunisia (AP) - Tunisian authorities have assaulted the home of suspected militants to end a 24-hour standoff, killing five women and one man.
The state news agency said Friday that one child was wounded as well as a member of security forces in the morning assault.
Interior Minister Mohammed Ali Aroui described all the dead as terrorists.
Responding to a tipoff, police surrounded the home in the Tunis suburbs Thursday morning and were shot at by the inhabitants, killing one policeman.
Electricity and gas to the home were cut and after negotiations failed to evacuate the women and children, security forces moved in.
Tunisia is set to hold key parliamentary elections Sunday and there have been warnings by the government that terrorists would seek to disrupt them.
