By Peter AdamuZambia today celebrates its Golden jubilee in the absence of President Michael Sata who is away in London receiving medical treatment.
The occasion has shoved Justice Minister and Patriotic Front Secretary General Edgar Lungu in the spotlight as he is the showman in the absence of President Sata as acting Head of State.
Lungu is slowly emerging as a possible heir to President Sata and has creditably played it cool with the limelight focused on him.
He has so far earned kudos for his release of the draft constitution that has been a touchy issue although it is largely seen as a political gimmick.
The official ceremony will take place at the Heroes Stadium in Lusaka although many will wonder why no foreign Head of State will be in attendance.
President Sata's failing health has opened the country to the reality of having to live with the possibility of having a Presidential by-election.
