Bangui - At least six people were abducted and two left injured after fighters with the Lord's Resistance Army (LRA) attacked a village in the eastern Central African Republic, witnesses told dpa on Tuesday.
Members of the LRA, a Uganda-based militant Christian group led by Joseph Kony, stormed the village of Moussa, some 900km east of the capital Bangui, late on Monday.
"I got up when I heard a scream and went to see what was going on. That's when I was shot," Moussa resident Jean Pierre told dpa by phone from the hospital.
LRA fighters also looted homes for food and other goods.
The LRA has led attacks and forcibly recruited soldiers - including children - in northern Uganda since 1987. The group, which often crosses borders into South Sudan, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and the Central African Republic, has also been accused of murder, mutilation and child-sex slavery.
Kony is wanted by the International Criminal Court, but evades capture by occupying a dense jungle region. A unit from the African Union, alongside troops from the United States, have been trying to track the rebels.
