WHILE most people are making new year resolutions one Evesham family will be flying to Africa to complete a life time ambition.
On December 31 Paul Boggeln and his children, Laura and Adam, will be jetting off to Tanzania where they plan to climb Mount Kilimanjaro - the highest free standing mountain in the world.
The family will begin the eight day climb in the new year, raising money along the way for a charity each.
Twenty-five-year-old Laura Boggeln is doing the climb for the Tusk Trust, Adam Boggeln, 22, is raising money for the Teenage Cancer Trust and dad Paul Boggeln is doing it for Prostate Cancer UK.
So far they have raised more than £1,200 between them.
But the real reason behind the challenge is to mark Mr Boggeln's 50th birthday.
Mr Boggeln, of Mount Road, Bengeworth, said: "I was 50 this year in April. At the end of last year I had been talking about what we wanted to do for my birthday. I said I want to do Kilimanjaro.
"As it got closer to the beginning of this year my daughter reminded me, she's very adventurous and said, come on let's book it.
"So we did and my son, well I'm coming. We booked it and we fly on New Year's Eve."
The family, who are all paying for themselves to do the trip, have been training together and this year completed the Worcestershire Way day hike for St Richard's Hospice and the Yorkshire Three Peaks.
And they had to take it easy over the Christmas period.
"We have been doing lots and lots of walking and general fitness work," added Mr Boggeln. "We had a fairly sober Christmas and have been pretty good. We still had Christmas dinner but less wine with it."
The trio will begin the trek on January 3.
Then Paul and Adam are set to return on January 13 with Laura heading off for a year of travelling.
"I am getting a bit nervous now it's only a few days away," added Mr Boggeln.
