By Nicholas WamalwaA Kitale based housing cooperative society has completed the construction of a building at a cost of Sh75 million.
Club 100 Co-operative Society said the building will be let to generate rent income for the union.
The development is located near the Nyayo market, owned by the savings and credit co-operative society, which it built at ans estimated Sh6.5 million. Nyayo market was the union's flagship project in real estate.
Chairman Lucas Njogu said Club 100 Sacco has also acquired a parcel next to Suam Supermarket for Sh7 million and has began developing it.
Construction of the building is estimated to cost an additional Sh75 million.
Each member of the sacco will be allocated space in either of the buildings - just as it did with the market stalls - which they will be free to let or set up their businesses in, according to Njogu.
"Demand for commercial buildings in Kitale town is high and that is why the society has decided to invest in the commercial buildings," he said.
The buildings are equipped with adequate parking space and are targeting the huge demand from universities and colleges setting up campuses in the town, as well as retailers expanding into Kitale.
"The society is committed to empowering the members economically and turn Kitale town into a prosperous business zone," said Njogu.
Club 100 wants the county and national governments to open up road networks to woo more investmests.
Trans Nzoia governor Patrick Khaemba is keen to boost construction of buildings across the county to spur development.
Khaemba said the county government will support "any investor in the housing sector", including trade facilitation.
Another building owned by Mazop Investors is also nearing completion and will be ready for occupation in a month's time, according to director Mary Nzomo.
It will host several university campuses, a super market and other retail businesses. Nzomo said it was built at a cost of Sh100 million.
