By Deus NgowiMoshi — KILIMANJARO Region has formed a network to unlock potentials in job opportunities for youth instead of them waiting for white colour-jobs.
That is an initiative by the Regional Interfaith Council in conjunction with Norwegian Church Aid (NCA) and seeks to link it with National Strategy for Growth and Poverty Reduction.
The youth are taken through an intensive course on entrepreneurship as a way to reduce unemployment in the country. Speaking at the launching of the programme, NCA representative, Mr Dennis Alla, said the training is aimed at forming a strong youth network in the region that will cultivate a culture of self-employment in different fields.
Mr Alla said the region has a lot of resources that are yet to be tapped while many youths just wonder about in the streets without jobs.
Speaking at the occasion, the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Tanzania (ELCT), Northern Diocese Bishopelect, Rev Frederick Shoo, told the youth that they are the main pillars of the society economically in the nation, so they should assume the responsibility immediately.
He told them that engaging in production activities was a way to do away with laziness, use of illicit drugs or in criminal acts, saying the head of a lazy person is a devil's workshop.
Kilimanjaro Regional Muslim Council Chairman, Sheikh Shaaban Rashid urged the youth to be attentive in the studies and later implement what they learnt in unison, regardless of their creed.
Some of the attendants, Ms Asuna Nasoro and Mr Yona Nehemia said the interfaith council has accomplished a lot, since youths from different religions and denominations have been put in a single fold.
Mr Nehemia said in yester years, they used to take those of different creed as enemies and did not share anything, but since the formation of the council and conduction of seminars, have been as familiar as ever.
He said it is pathetic that many youths stay in the streets or doing nothing or waiting to vandalize people's properties while there are a lot of untapped opportunities.
