One of the most prominent people to dump RDP for Swapo is Moses Amukoto, the Omuthiya RDP district coordinator and the first RDP councillor for Omuthiya town. The others are members of the RDP central committee.
Hilya Kamati, who was RDP coordinator for the Guinea District and also RDP women's council mobiliser for the Oshikoto district also re-joined Swapo.
Prime Minister Hage Geingob, who addressed the rally, praised those who rejoined Swapo for making a good decision to return home and welcomed them back to the party.
He said President Hifikepunye Pohamba made a call some time ago that all those who had left the party must freely come back home.
“How can you leave the house you have built? You are all welcome. Let us unite in Swapo and work together to develop our country and its people,” Geingob said.
He urged the people to vote for Swapo and for him as president to further Swapo's legacy of peace and unity created by Founding President Sam Nujoma as well as stability maintained by President Hifikepunye Pohamba and continued prosperity under his presidency.
The PM said Swapo built roads, clinics, hospitals, schools and provided water, electricity and communication facilities, which very few governments in Africa have managed to do.
Despite all this, he said, destructors are telling people that Swapo has only made promises to the people but done nothing.
“I want the police to arrest all those telling people that Swapo has done nothing because they are lying and by lying, they are committing a crime. They must be arrested,” Geingob said.
Both Amukoto and Kamati said they are happy to be accepted back to Swapo and promised to continue working for Namibia's development.
Kamati blamed RDP and its leadership for lack of progress and lack of communication between the top leaders with regional leaders, members and supporters in different regions.
“I cannot remain in such a political party, and therefore decided to come back to my mother, Swapo where I can contribute to the development of our country and its people,” Kamati said.
Oshikoto Swapo coordinator Armas Amukwiyu said he and other senior Swapo leaders in the region are doing a lot to unite all people under Swapo.
The rally was also attended by Swapo secretary-general Nangolo Mbumba, who called on Swapo members and supporters to go out in big numbers and vote for Geingob as president and for Swapo's National Assembly candidates.
