Addis Ababa, 12 December, 2014 (WIC) ¬– Foreign Affairs Minister Dr. Tedros Adhanom met on Thursday (December 11) with Matt Baugh, Head of the East and West Africa Department at the UK Foreign and Commonwealth Office.
They exchanged views on Ethiopia-UK’s bilateral relationship and on regional topics of common interest.
Dr. Tedros pointed out that the bilateral cooperative partnership has started to pay off in speeding up the creation of a stable region.
He appreciated the UK’s support for Ethiopia’s progress and the advancement of regional peace and security.
Baugh said Ethiopia’s determined leadership was a positive force for the promotion of regional peace and security.
He also welcomed Ethiopia’s contribution to AMISOM in stabilizing Somalia and dislodging Al-Shabaab extremists and said it was encouraging for the creation of a peaceful Somalia and the achievement of Vision 2016.
Dr. Tedros said that Somalia was witnessing new signs of progress that would help the Federal Government realize the goals of Vision 2016.
He noted that the recent political settlement made in Somalia through parliamentary channels, and the outgoing Prime Minister’s acceptance of the result was a milestone in Somali advance to peace and stability.
Foreign Minister Dr. Tedros emphasized that Ethiopia stood ready to continue to assist in building a stable and secure Somalia as well as supporting the dialogue and peace talks as the way forward for the creation of a stable South Sudan. (MoFA)
