Addis Ababa, 12 December 2014 (WIC) - The House of Federation (HoF) said the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) has a great opportunity to strengthen regional cooperation.
Speaker of HoF, Kassa Tekleberhan, said at the eastern Nile Basin countries held in Assosa town recently that the dam has a special advantage in catalyzing the people-to people and economic cooperation in the region.
Prof Yacob Arsano, Political Science and International Relations at Addis Ababa University on his part said that Ethiopia has been following cautious and cooperative approach to trans-boundary water resources.
The consultation that Ethiopia has been holding with Sudan and Egypt on GRED is crucial to sustain the economic cooperation among the riparian countries, he said.
According to Prof. Yacob, Ethiopia has so far gained remarkable achievements from the discussion held on the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam (GERD) at various time.
Dr. Osman Eltom Hamad, Nile-TAC member, Sudan, said the Nile River can be used as means to further deepen socio-economic and political relations among Ethiopia, Egypt and Sudan.
Eastern Nile Basin countries can use the river to improve the livelihood of their people.
