By Mathews NdanyiThe National Cereals and Produce Board is now buying maize in 50kg bags instead of the 90kg bags following a government directive.
NCPB chief executive Newton Terer said the board will pay farmers Sh1,400 for every 50kg bag.
Some farmers had, however, started delivering maize using the 90kg bags.
Farmers in Eldoret, Moi's Bridge and Kitale waited in line to sell their maize at the NCPB depots yesterday.
Farmers' representative Moira Chepkok said they asked the board to pay them for the maize delivered.
The government has given Sh2.7 billion to NCPB to buy maize for Sh2,800 per 90kg bag.
They asked the government to consider paying Sh3,000 per 90kg bag.
